CANVA x ANDERSON

Anderson has joined forces as part of Canva’s Represents Fund to bring to life a story of unbridled expression. Hearkening back to a Studio 54-era New York City, this collaboration explores queer culture through makeup and fashion.

Coined “Warhol of the 21st century” by Wonderland Magazine, Anderson weaves references to trailblazers of these eras, embraced in the present.

“I have always felt like an old soul,” Anderson says “my first friend in the city was a supermodel from the 90s. Before I knew it I was walking down a Richie Rich runway and bumping shoulders with Amanda Lepore at the club. My work has always been almost a case study of identity… exploring beauty in an abstract and dynamic way that queer people are so good at.”

As a global design platform and home to one of the world's largest content libraries, Canva believes they have an incredible responsibility to ensure their community can see themselves in Canva’s content. The Canva Represents Fund is designed to seek out, support, and champion talented artists from underrepresented communities around the world. Via Canva Represents collections, Canva is building a content library just as diverse as its community of more than 170 million users.

This project champions not only Anderson, but brings a microscope to New York City’s blossoming queer community. Featuring drag performer, queer entertainer and club kid Devin Taitano (stage name Yasmeen Kennedy) who works regularly as a party host for clubs across Hell’s Kitchen, and most iconically Paul’s Doll’s : an all trans run party recently nominated for a GLAM Award!

Other team members of the team include fashion stylist + Vogue Greece’s Editor-At-Large, Anna Katsanis who pulled clothes from a diverse range of local NYC-based labels like Guvanch + Alexis Bittar; model Meron Mamo; and hair/ makeup team Taichi Saito + Miguel Ramos, using a range of stunning wigs + extensions and the vibrant hues of Haus Labs makeup who “believes that art has the power to shape the future… going beyond looks, giving you the tools for endless creativity and self-expression.”
